I just wonder whether Penang or Singapore will resort to the situation…
Very tall hor? Actually they’re ‘only’ 30-odd stories. Fewer than latest HDB flats anyway. Even fewer compared to typical ‘Brunei’ buildings.
Where there will be new laws saying…
“No new buildings below 60 Stories”
Don’t laugh. The building height limit of 280m may be lifted soon in Singapore. And all the new HDB flats are around 40 stories high.
And soon, 60. Later, 70. Later, 75.
…
But that’s a different story in Penang Island. I guess around half its land is unsuitable for construction due to the terrain. The land area is just 293 square kilometers. There are two ways: Going out and/or going up.
Going out means land reclamation lah… Not really going away! And going up… I think you got what I mean.
Auspicious or otherwise depends on how you look at it. I am thinking of the finger.
On the case of ‘Brunei’, both approaches are used.
It costs millions of simoleons to create the islands man. But nvm, there are 64 million simoleons in the bank vault now. And now there’s nowhere to spend but to keep.
Western Island, Eastern Island, Arm of Brunei and Central Island are reclaimed from sea and river.

And there are 386 very, very tall buildings. No less than 50 stories I guess.
What to do? Brunei had to accommodate 1,763,397 inhabitants on 212 square kilometers of land. That’s a population density of 8,318 persons per sq km. Third highest in the ‘world’.
Update: The population density near the West Bank old port is 3.7 million persons per sq km!
